“masked” carlos oliveria, resident evil 3. unmasked, fionn whiteheadVortex is a man shaped by silence and duty, carrying the weight of his past with a stoic resilience that few see beneath the surface. He rarely speaks unless necessary, preferring to observe and analyze before acting. His loyalty is unwavering, but it’s guarded carefully; trust isn’t given lightly, and those who earn it find in him a steadfast ally who will protect them fiercely. Emotionally reserved, Vortex struggles with expressing vulnerability, often masking his pain with quiet determination and a rigid code of conduct. He’s the kind of person who shows care through actions rather than words, quietly taking on burdens to shield others from harm.
Despite his cold exterior, Vortex harbors a deep sense of responsibility and a desire for stability. He thrives in structured environments where rules are clear and order is maintained, but he’s also haunted by his history and the fear of abandonment. His sharp mind and acute awareness make him a skilled tactician and sniper, able to anticipate threats before they appear. However, this vigilance can sometimes tip into anxiety and distrust, making it difficult for him to relax or fully open up. Still, beneath the guarded shell is someone who craves genuine connection, even if he struggles to show it.

God didn’t save me. He watched.

5-10 ://
Reid’s early childhood was marked by an intense atmosphere of strict discipline and quiet expectation. Growing up in a small, rigid household, he learned early on that emotions were to be controlled and rarely expressed. His parents, especially his father, emphasized order and obedience above all else, often using fear and religious doctrine to instill a sense of duty. He became adept at reading the moods around him, learning to stay silent and invisible to avoid drawing attention. While other kids played freely, he was already internalizing a heavy sense of responsibility, feeling the weight of expectations far beyond his years.11-14 ://
Reid’s world grew darker as his family’s instability deepened. His home life became fraught with tension, and the line between discipline and punishment blurred. It was during this time he first held a rifle, initially a symbol of protection, but quickly becoming a tool that tethered him to a path of survival and wariness. He distanced himself further from peers, preferring solitude and observation over connection. Though still a boy on the outside, inside he was sharpening his instincts, learning that trust was scarce and safety even scarcer. These formative years forged his cautious, watchful nature that would come to define him as an adult.
15-17 ://
Reid’s teenage years were a turbulent mix of growing frustration and silent rebellion. The rigid walls of his childhood home felt more like a cage, and the weight of expectations grew heavier with each passing day. Social connections remained difficult. He struggled to relate to others and kept most people at arm’s length, preferring the company of his own thoughts and the discipline of training. His skills with weapons and tactics advanced rapidly, fueled by a deep desire to protect himself from a world that had shown little kindness. Yet beneath his tough exterior, the loneliness and fear of abandonment gnawed at him relentlessly.17 ://
Feeling suffocated and desperate for freedom, Reid made the difficult decision to run away. Without a word of goodbye, he left behind the only life he’d ever known, stepping into the unknown with nothing but his resolve and survival instincts. This act of escape was both a break from the past and a leap toward something undefined—dangerous, yes, but also filled with the faint hope of belonging somewhere new. Running away was not just an act of rebellion; it was the first step toward forging his own path, one where he could redefine loyalty and trust on his own terms.
18-25 ://
Reid’s young adulthood has been a relentless journey of survival, discipline, and self-discovery. After running away from his restrictive past, he found himself drawn into military life, where structure and clear purpose gave him a sense of belonging he’d never known before. The rigors of training and the demands of combat shaped him further, sharpening both his physical skills and his emotional defenses. While he still struggled with opening up, he learned to trust in the unspoken bonds forged through shared danger and hardship. During his first real op, he got lost in a thick storm by himself, his comms out, and deep in enemy territory. Somehow - to his surprise - he managed to get back to his team with little injuries and a lot more kills than he went in, earning his callsign “Vortex”.25+ ://
Reid, now Vortex, carries the scars of his past and the weight of his experiences with quiet resolve. He was allowed into Task Force 141 by Captain John Price after being recommended by Soap, who worked with him for a few months when they were both younger. He’s a consummate professional, precise, dependable, and fiercely protective of his team. Though haunted by memories and inner turmoil, he channels his anxiety into vigilance and action, always ready to watch over those who can’t watch themselves. Despite his stoic exterior, there are glimpses of a man who longs for connection and peace, even if he doesn’t yet know how to ask for it. His journey continues, balancing the shadows of his upbringing with the hope that loyalty and care can still carve out a place for light.
